Urophilism is the sexual preference for urine. Since the term urine is negatively charged in the sense of faecal matter and thus does not express the clear pleasure gain, urophilistic people prefer to use the term golden shower as a synonym for urine. With this preference, urine, its smell, the process of urination or the absorption of urine is perceived as erotic and sexually stimulating. Urine as a sexual fetish is more widespread than is commonly believed. Psychology explained the emergence of this predisposition a hundred years ago with a more or less accidental connection between a first sexual feeling of happiness and the process of urinating, which determines the sexual experience in the further course of life. Sexual games with golden showers (NS for short) are widespread in the scene. The terms NS games, Watersports, Golden Shower or Wet Games have established themselves as further terms around this topic. The inclusion of urine in sexual practices alone is not part of BDSM. However, urosadistic or uromasochistic elements can be part of a BDSM role-playing game that demonstrate the superiority and control of the dominant partner (top) over the controlled partner (bottom). Urine can be used as a means of humiliation or punishment. If the partner has a urophilous disposition, urine is also conceivable as a means of reward. In practice, practices with golden showers do not pose any major health risks. However, the real possibility of disease transmission through bacterial infections of the urethra and allergic reactions to the chemicals contained in urine should be considered. The intake of small amounts is not very risky. However, larger amounts of urine in the body can have similar effects to drinking sea water due to the sodium chloride (salt) contained. In art, the depiction of urinating persons has long been known as a subject. In painting, Picasso's painting "La Pisseuse" or Rembrandt's drawing of a urinating farmer's wife are examples of this. In the sculpture, the mannequin Pis and his female counterpart Janneken Pis can be admired in Brussels. In the music Frank Zappa sang about Bobby Brown and his preference for Golden Showers. In the scene, lovers of Nazi games can communicate their sexual preferences through the Hanky code. With the Hanky Code, initiates can unobtrusively demonstrate their preference for golden showers by wearing a yellow handkerchief. The pocket in which the handkerchief is worn gives information as to whether the person prefers to play the active part and donate "golden shower" (left back pocket) or prefers to passively receive golden shower (right back pocket).
